The repertoire includes essential works for trumpet and piano by Honegger and Enesco, but also other works that the duo deeply knows from composers such as Hindemith, Peaslee, Bolter, Turrin, and Ewazen. The inclusion of the work "Impuls Vital" stands out, a commission for the Catalan composer Salvador Brotons.
With this album and collection of pieces, the duo wants to highlight their interpretive variety and uniqueness, and connect with four elements that in some way they share and define them: fire, air, water, and earth. In relation to these four elements, the album booklet is complemented by an original poem by Manuel Forcano inspired by the music of Temperaments, a collaboration that responds to the preference of the performers for Forcano's poetry. The photographs of the album, also closely inspired by the four elements they want to emphasize, are signed by photographer Noemí Elías.
The recording was in charge of the renowned English producer Simon Kiln, in July 2019, at the Oriol Martorell Hall of the Auditorium of Barcelona.
ABOUT MIREIA FARRÉS, TRUMPET
This young trumpet player born in Santpedor (Barcelona) was first formed at the Conservatory of Music in Manresa and later at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where she was a standout student of master Charles Schlueter.
At a young age, she began her experience as a performer with the JONC (Young National Orchestra of Catalonia), continued as a solo trumpet with the City Orchestra of Granada (2001-2004), until she obtained the position of solo trumpet with the OBC (City Orchestra of Barcelona).
Her brilliant and emotional performances have often led her to perform as a soloist with other groups such as the National Orchestra of Andorra, the Symphony Orchestra of Granada, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Galicia, the Symphony Orchestra of Prague, the Symphony Orchestra of Salvador de Bahía, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and Gioorchestra, among others. She has also performed with Christian Zaccharias, Jaime Martín, Yuja Wang, Marta Argerich, Rosa Torres Pardo,... And in August 2015, she was invited to participate in the Graffenegg Festival, with a work by Matthias Pinchter for two trumpets, where she performed with Tine Thing Helseth, under the direction of the composer himself.
Her vocation to explore the most colorful and intimate sound possibilities of the instrument has led her to participate in various chamber formations, such as the established duo with pianist Mercè Hervada, with whom she has interpreted original music for trumpet and piano at various festivals in the country, Germany, and Italy, and with whom she has just recorded the album Temperaments (on Seed Music), with an original work by Salvador Brotons and poems by Manuel Forcano.
Her versatility has often led her to explore new interpretive fields such as improvised music, and for this reason, she has collaborated with great musicians such as saxophonist Llibert Fortuny and pianist Manel Camp in the Jazz Nadal and Jazz Bach projects. She has also premiered many works composed and thought for her way of playing and her sound, so that the legacy of new compositions for the trumpet is always on the rise.
She has been a professor at the Conservatory of Mallorca and the Conservatory of Granollers and currently teaches at the ESMUC (Higher School of Music of Catalonia). She also collaborates with the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory in Valencia.
